On a camping trip with friends at Placid Lake this summer, the night fell strangely quiet, and flashes of white light illuminated the tent. The rush of wind came softly at first, as if from a distance, followed by a wall of rain. Placid Lake wasn't so placid as we packed up and headed out at first light, cold and soaking wet.
